TATTI, Land of Dreams: a film by Ruedi Gerber

Tatti, paese di sognatori: un film di Ruedi Gerber

We are very pleased to announce that "TATTI, Land of Dreams", a film by Ruedi Gerber, will soon have its debut in Italian and Swiss cinemas this Spring.

A declaration of love from the director towards this magicalMaremma village in southern Tuscany, where he arrived by chance over thirty years ago. A film in which his personal story intertwines with that of an entire community, until it becomes one singular shared life story.

An intimate portrait that becomes a universal story of resilience, showing how a community can be reborn while preserving its traditions and memory as it evolves.

After the successful premieres at the Zurich Film Festival and theFestival dei Popoli in Florence, followed by a preview screening in Follonica that was warmly received by the audience, the film is now preparing to debut in Italian cinemas: the first screening will take place in Florence on April 9th (see the calendar below).

“I arrived in Sequerciani by chance. Here I discovered something I wasn't looking for and that, perhaps, I had always longed for: the unique and profoundly touching, frankness, openness, and warmth of its people.

My friendship with the twin brothers Marco and Massimo, the last farmers in the village, ignited a spark of hope in me: the fields could breathe again, the rows of vines could be reborn like promises, a shop and a restaurant could be filled with aromas and laughter, and ancient spaces could once again welcome friends and travelers.

In conversation with the inhabitants of Tatti and in our shared work, we rediscovered life flowing.

And as Tatti changed, so did I.In Tatti, I lost myself… and in Tatti, I found myself again.”

Ruedi Gerber

Ruedi's words reveal just how cathartic and transformative this process was for him, the culmination of which is this film.

The transformation of a man, the rebirth of a village.

The film also holds a universal message: the power of dreaming together.

Tatti's story is authentic, spontaneous, and doesn't hide the truth. From these sincere beginnings, Ruedi's desire to immerse himself in the community's activities—primarily agriculture—was born, merging ancient traditional knowledge with more innovative visions.

The inhabitants knew the land, the rocks, in every detail; Ruedi brought biodynamics, permaculture, and a more horizontal approach. They brought the machinery, and he brought the new ideas.

Thus, by listening and learning together, a collaboration was born, capable of generating new dreams: the rebuilding of Tatti's economic and community fabric, restoring enthusiasm and the pleasure of being together.

A story of land, hope, and returns. The story of a community.

This film is also a message for the future: while remembering the past, we can build positive change. Human connection and a shared community purpose can revitalize a village and our belief in what is possible.

Production

The film is produced by ZAS Film AG, a Swiss film production company founded by Ruedi Gerber (Breath Made Visible, Living with the Spill, Heartbreak Hospital, Journey in Sensuality) and co-produced by Michael King's Italian production company Perché No Films. The film will be distributed in Italy by Lo Scrittoio-Cinema D’Autore and inSwitzerland by Innovative EYE starting in spring 2026.

Pugnitello: history comes alive and becomes a vision.
Pugnitello is a native Tuscan grape variety whose origins remain partly shrouded in mystery. Its presence has been documented for centuries in the hills of Alta Maremma, Chianti, and the provinces of Siena andGrosseto, and its name derives from its small, compact grape bunches that resemble a "fist" ("pugno"). The compactness of its grape bunch, which can sometimes lead to mold growth and the low yield per hectare, led to its abandonment in the past.  Its rebirth began in the 1980s, when Dr. Bandinelli discovered some surviving vines on Mount Amiata, and made a decisive contribution to its preservation.  In the years that followed, genetic studies and agronomic experiments led to its gradual reintroduction into cultivation. Of fundamental importance to this process was the work of Agricola San Felice nearSiena.  The Vitiarium/Coltivatori Custodi project was founded with the goal of recovering rare native grape varieties, preserving biodiversity, and restoring the dignity of historic varieties. Sequerciani, as a Custodian Cultivator since 2018, is also a part of this visionary work. When Ruedi Gerber decided to plant a vineyard in 2009, he had no doubts: Pugnitello was the first grape variety he selected. A conscious choice, as an expression of the terroir of Maremma, and a symbol of biodiversity in harmony with regenerative and biodynamic agriculture.  This compact bunched grape, susceptible to powdery mildew in rainy years, finds its ideal balance in the clay, chalky, mineral-rich hillside soils of Sequerciani, where location, good ventilation, and an ideal temperature range prevent mold and favor phenolic concentration and ripening.   Sequerciani's Pugnitello. This wine is made from single-varietal Pugnitello grapes that arespontaneously pre-fermented with plant-specific yeasts and maceratedin cement tanks for 18-20 days. Aging in terracotta amphorae iscombined with aging in French oak barrels and lasts about two years. After bottling, the wine rests for another year in glass bottles.  There it presents itself with an intense ruby red color. The tannins arepowerful yet refined. On the nose, it offers notes of forest berries, plum, and spicy nuances. On the palate, it is structured andharmonious, with a freshness that supports and balances its fullness.  It's a wine that expresses its terroir with elegance and determination. Itpairs perfectly with strong-flavored dishes, slow-cooked meats, agedpecorino cheeses, and spicy foods. A wine to be enjoyed to its fulleston the tongue.  Our agricultural work thus becomes culture.
